ADOBE BOOKS

Adobe Books & Arts Cooperative is a volunteer‑run bookstore, gallery and performance space in San Francisco’s Mission District. Founded in 1989 by Andrew McKinley and affectionately nicknamed “the Living Room of the Mission,” it has long served as a gathering spot for artists, musicians and readers, hosting hundreds of exhibitions and live events that helped nurture the Mission School art movement.

Now a registered Legacy Business and, as of 2024, a nonprofit, Adobe Books partners with community groups such as Calle 24 and Litquake, donates books to prison‑literacy projects, and provides free meeting and performance space—remaining a welcoming, multilingual hub for locals and visitors alike.
