DIA DE LOS MUERTOS CELEBRATION

Saturday | November 2, 2024 | 1:00-3:00pm
Onsite | Free

Join us for a special daytime bilingual (Spanish/English) event honoring those who have departed with a vibrant, multigenerational Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration!

Experience the electrifying rhythms of MixtisoLatino, an Indio-Afro-Mexican Salvadoreno Urbano Hip Hop dance company and musical ensemble, led by the dynamic Vanessa Mosqueda Velez, our beloved weekly Latin Dance instructor, alongside her talented collaborator Frank Valez. They’ll be joined by the incredible Arya Bates, Erika Bates, Brad Bollinger, Jose Luis Sanchez, and Rita Wolper.

Come decorate a festive mask for the DIY Dress-up Station with Teaching Artists Aiko Cuneo and Monica Lee! Savor free tamales (meat, vegetarian, or vegan), fresh green salad, and agua de jamaica, provided by Café De Olla, an immigrant and LGBTQ+ owned Oaxacan restaurant in the Mission District.

Delight in face painting and a community installation featuring handmade ofrendas (altars) and calaveras (decorative skulls), created by Ruth’s Table’s weekly Creative Reuse Workshop and led by instructors Monica Lee and Aiko Cuneo. The event also includes engaging art-making stations and a photo booth by Frank Nunez (Vivid KZ).

This event is made possible by our community partners at Waymo. Come experience this inclusive, participatory gathering that makes Ruth’s Table a vibrant cultural hub!

Visitor Guidelines: Face masks are optional.

Access: Ruth’s Table gallery and adjacent green space are wheelchair accessible.
