RUTH’S TABLE PRESENTS: DRAMA WITH FRIENDS

Thursday, November 14
5:30pm, followed by a post-show reception
Onsite | Free

After more than four years of performing only in zoom, the members of Drama with Friends (DwF) are excited to be performing LIVE, for the first time, at Ruth’s Table! DwF will be offering staged readings of four different and evocative theatrical scripts:

Las Meninas, a short play by Vonn Scott Bair, will take us on a fascinating journey back in time to the court of King Philip IV of Spain in 1656, as we witness the great painter, Diego Velasquez, pitching his vision for what was to become one of his greatest paintings, to the reluctant King.

Also featured will be an original tale told by Cat Hampton, DwF’s own pied-piper. Cat will weave a story about the healing power of the harp—The Magical Antidote.  She will embellish the story with lovely, live harp music!

In the short play, Joey, by Donald Loftus, six actors will take the stage to bring to life the recent experiences of Latino immigrants attempting to cross our southern border. We will hear the voices of government officials, psychologists, mothers, and Joey, a young boy torn away from his mother and forced to live in a cage with other incarcerated children.

The curtain will close with George Sapio’s Bucket List.  This original short play will present the story of two widowed septuagenarians who have become good friends. They have bonded by fulfilling their bucket list of unusual places in which to have sex.

Drama with Friends is a venue for seniors and people with disabilities, primarily in San Francisco, to perform plays for a Zoom audience. We strive to build an inclusive community that has fun while developing both acting and directing skills. Drama with Friends is a project of the Community Living Campaign, which cultivates connections to help seniors and people with disabilities thrive at home (sfcommunityliving.org).
