Ruth’s Table is pleased to present Subject Matters: The Art of Disability Culture. The exhibition is a continuation of The Art of Disability Culture exhibition hosted at RT last year and aims to keep the conversation going by bringing together voices and perspectives across generations.
Subject Matters: The Art of Disability Culture is an invitation to engage with the work of ten artists who identify as having a disability and expand our understanding of the disability community. At the heart of this exhibition is a celebration of the diverse, personal, and infinitely varied “disability experience”, whether visible or invisible.
One in four people have a disability or will acquire one through age, and although we have some important legal protections, prejudice, discrimination, and exclusion persist. The Bay Area is a fertile home to many organizations and individuals who continue to forward disability rights and disability justice, and artists are an integral part of this strong and expanding ecosystem.
Subject Matters: The Art of Disability Culture centers upon their creativity, vulnerability, and unique perspectives, and aims to create a safe space to reflect and experience the humanity of others.
We invite you to spend time with the artwork and leave with a new insight into the power of disability culture to strengthen our communities through the practices of interdependence, accessibility, and inclusion.
